Bug Description
Binary package hint: open-vm-tools
The manpage for the vmhgfs module states that the user can place the following line in their /etc/fstab file to have the shared folders mounted at boot time:
host:/ /mnt/hgfs vmhgfs defaults 0 0
However, previously in the same document and also from other documentation and error messages the correct line would be
.host:/ /mnt/hgfs vmhgfs defaults 0 0
(Notice the leading period)
Finally, it should be noted that the user must also create the mount point /mnt/hgfs. Users who have previously used the VMware Guest Tools provided by VMware have this done for them and may not realize it at first.
This was tested on 10.04, but I noticed that this typo appears in previous releases as well.
Hi Robert, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better.
Indeed these do need updating, I've just confirmed this is still wrong in Oneiric. Marking as Confirmed, setting importance to Low.
