Thumbnails are not created for MS Office files.

Binary package hint: ooo-thumbnailer

In Ubuntu 10.04, the version of ooo-thumbnailer in the repos (2.5?) doesn't work for MS Office files. A version I downloaded here - http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7402808&postcount=89 - a long time ago works fine.

I'll get to work on it straight away, thanks for the link, I'd forgotten about unoconv. It might take some time to get into the repos, though.

I've released a new version of ooo-thumbnailer (0.3.1) which includes this new feature. You can get it at my PPA:

I'm currently requesting sponsorship for my Debian package to be accepted in the Debian unstable repositories. Hopefully, it will get accepted and synced to Ubuntu Maverick eventually.

I don't think new upstream releases are allowed to be included in Lucid, so I'm not sure what to do with this bug, which is why I'm setting it back to Confirmed. Ta!

Thanks. I did mention this on the ubuntu forums thread, but this latest version seems to a bit tempremental about which MS Office files it works with. I'd open a new bug bit there's no helpful information I can give to troubleshoot it.

Well, it also turns out here only a fraction of MS office files are recognized by the latest version of ooo-thumbnailer. Is there any additional dependency ?

[ Off topic : it would be really nice if the "spaces in path prevents thumbnails" bugfix could be backported to lucid... ]
