Bug Description

Hi,

When I open the attached PDF file, okular freezes and has to be terminated. This also happens with other PDF files, but with this one it is always reproducible. I have it from this bug report (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307677), but the solution suggested there (updating libpoppler) does not apply, because my version already is more recent.

Expected to happened:
1. Open PDF and display content

What happened:
1. Okular freezes, window becomes gray and has to be terminated.
Console output
okular(4710)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:

I have random hangs when opening files.
Usually when there are already multiple files open.

Surprisingly, I figured out that it somehow happens when I'm running Eclipse and have launched some Java programs. Once I exit Eclipse, Okular stops freezing immediately. I guess it's some resource lock issue but haven't got time to investigate further.

After upgrading to 16.04 okular hangs when for all files when I start it directly specifying a file name on the command line. It takes a couple of minutes before a window is shown at all, then the window, which is just gray remains unresponsive until I kill okular.

If I start okular without a file name, an initial screen is shown, the menu bar is responsive, I can open the configure okular dialog etc.
however when I choose File -> Open, the program locks up and becomes unresponsive without showing a file selection dialog.

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

`ubuntu-bug` or `apport-collect was never run on this bug report, so release was not entered, and the package version of `okular` is now no longer supported. (https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all&searchon=names&keywords=okular)

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I'll mark this bug report 'incomplete', and suggest it be re-tested with a supported release (ideally 18.04, 20.04 as Kubuntu 16.04 LTS is already EOL being a flavor). It would also be best if `apport-collect 1248461` is run by the original reporter, or if the bug is experienced by other users (of supported systems), they can file their own bug report and the two linked via 'duplicate').

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.
