Old OGRE package in Feisty

Binary package hint: libogre5c2a

The libogre package in Feisty is rather old. It's currently at 1.0.6 (same as Edgy, if I'm not mistaken), while the current release is 1.2.5. A bug regarding this issue was filed for Edgy (bug #64655), but at that point the upstream version freeze was already in effect. There have been a number of changes in OGRE since 1.0.6, and programs written for 1.2.5 may not even compile with 1.0.6. Compiling OGRE from source is NOT trivial, at least in my experience.

I figured this wasn't a duplicate since the old one was for Edgy. Regardless, 1.2 was released in May, and 1.0 was released nearly two years ago. Oddly, Fedora Core 6 has 1.2 in Fedora Extras, but Debian Sid is still at 1.0.6. OGRE looks like a great graphics engine, and I would hate to see Ubuntu stay with an old version, especially after missing the boat with Edgy.

Can someone point me in the direction of document describing what is needed and expected of maintainer? and a good package developement guide. I have extensive experience compiling Ogre and all of its dependencies from source on Ubuntu.

cafg10 on the ogre forums has been working on packaging it for ubuntu but he says there are some difficulties getting all the dependencies compiled and packaged. "So building Ogre, Cegui, ODE and packaging them along with Nvidia's Cg is not really easy, and have to do it before march." - cafg10

Game_Ender, as ogre package is in universe REVU https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/REVU is maybe the best way to contribute if you're planning to package new upstream release.
