Bug Description

Octave branch 3.4 has been the stated stable release of octave for some time now.
(see http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/)
The repo only contains 3.2. Latest stable release in June was 3.4.2. Will not have been picked up in the Debian Freeze because it is missing in Debian as well. Octave 3.4 branch is major update from 3.2 (since Feb 2010) and contains feature important to us Octave users particularly in terms of the Matlab compatibility and graphing facilities.

Thanks for your attention

Will the updated octave be part of 12.04?

Out of curiosity, why wasn't this package synced? Was it past the Freeze?

The Debian packages have been updated to 3.6.1 for a while now, and Debian had 3.4. before. How come Ubuntu does not have at least 3.4?

It seems unlikely that octave will be officially backported to 12.04 because of the number of packages in the archive that strictly depend on octave3.2.

There is an Octave team PPA with Octave 3.6.3 available for 12.04 and older Ubuntu releases.
