Can you try upgrading to the latest revision of nvidia-96 and see if the problem persists, please?

i had restricted drivers installed, i uninstall it and install drivers version 96 from software center, now i get another message: You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server. I have a problem with keyboard, cant press enter everything freezes

Please follow these instructions for a correct installation of the driver:

1) Make sure that the kernel headers for your kernel are installed
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
2) Install the nvidia driver:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current (or nvidia-173 or nvidia-96,
depending on your card)
3) Select the driver that you wish to use (you can install all of the
nvidia drivers but use only at the time):
sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf
sudo ldconfig
sudo update-initramfs -u
4) Configure your xorg.conf
sudo nvidia-xconfig
5) Restart your computer (restarting only the xserver might not work)

problem solved with last driver from nvidia.com 173.14.25

This is a problem for me as well; I'm posting from a 640x480 sized screen with a fair amount of interference. The resolution cannot be changed through the nvidia x server configuration settings, which gives the message:

Failed to query NoScanout for screen 0.

This comes as a result of an apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade performed at 09:56 GMT, Tue 23rd Feb.

I feel everyone should enjoy the hilarity of this:

Ignore my last statement. I was about to change graphics cards to see if the problem could be replicated on another card, when the VGA connection fell out of the back of my monitor. I suspect that the connection between the cable and monitor was marginal, and that this was the cause of the problem.

Same is the case with me using 96.43.13 driver for nvidia MX4000 on ubuntu 10.04 Lucid 2. Kernel 6.32-16-generic
Unable to load X-Server Display configuration page
failed to query Noscanout for screen 0
and apport is showing no network connection where as my internet is working fine probably there is problem with apport also, so attaching the file generated by apport with this mail. and we should get the latest driver installed automatically just found on mfrs site they have 96.43.16 whereas synaptic has updated to 96.43.14
Thanks

The problem is resolved when i changed to kubuntu 10.04 whereas it is still there in ubuntu 10.04, after today's update the top and bottom tool bars appeared but nothing is visible on the desktop window, no mouse right click ....nothing can be done but anything from panel is working fine.....and in kubuntu 10.04 all is working fine....except nvidia display configuration which we can forget for the time being as rest of the system is behaving as it should. I am providing this info so that any body can take the things further to clear the issue and new person has the idea how to resolve.
Thanks

Hi,

I have the exact same problem as Rajidner Sandhu with NVidia GeForce4 MX4000.
Desktop doesn´t work, my shortcuts disappeared but everything else from panels and windows go well, and I get no Plymouth boot screen. Though, I´m not using Kubuntu.
Compiz does not work either.
I installed the driver through "Hardware Drivers" at the menu. Without this driver, my display goes off while booting.

Best regards,
Mariano
