Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

Release: Ubuntu Karmic 9.10
VLC Version: 1.0.2-ubuntu1

When playing vidoes from VLC (this is over a samba share) the colour hues are off to the blue side of the spectrum by default.
This can be fixed by modifying the values in the video options (tools -> effects and filters -> video effects -> enable image adjust and move hue slider to centre of bar); however, these changes do not "save" between sessions and must be done each time VLC is restarted. This was not an issue on this system with Jaunty.

Copying a file to the local filesystem and then playing it through VLC did not solve the issue.

The system is an upgrade from Jaunty to the beta version. Using ALSA, nvidia 280GTX (w/ restricted drivers), and GRUB legacy on an ext3 file system.

I expect when a video starts that the colour hues be properly adjusted (that is, not skewed to either side of the spectrum).

I have the same problem, however for me, all video playing is affected. If I view a video file with Totem the same colour problem exists. I am also on amd64.

I just did some further exploring (superficially though)

1) Open a video file using SMPlayer -- this played with the correct hues
2) Open the same video using VLC -- this played with the correct hues
3) Open the same video using "Movie Player" (totem I think) -- this caused all videos to shift hues to the far side.

Can anyone reproduce this?

I'm getting the same problem; All video files have the Hue turned all the way off in VLC and totem.

I'm running an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 on a Core2 CPU with NVIDIA Gfx (185 restricted drivers), compiz on.

This is also happening to me in 9.10. In VLC it would "forget" my change back to normal hue each time a video loaded. However, in totem I went in to the display preferences and click, reset to defaults. Now any video in VLC and totem are displayed with proper hue.

Thank you Yiannis, that worked as a workaround.

Error is still present in 9.10 x64

Same here....

Brand new Ubuntu 9.10 64bit (not upgrade). Hue is all way to the left. I could fix it in VLC by applying hue filters (and dragging hue all the way to the middle of the slider) but it would not "stick".

Same problem with mplayer. Paradoxically, if I played the video with avidemux, it would play with the correct hue.

Yiannis Kipouros (geia sou gianni) fix, DID work for ALL video players and "sticks" across different video playbacks.

Thanks Yiannis

I have the same experience as stratos. I can move the hue slider per video but it does not stay put between plays.

I get this.

Setting the video output device to OpenGL seems to be a workaround for me...

This is probably a bug of the nvidia-settings that change the overlay hue setting.
Run it to check.

This bug still exist in Ubuntu 11.10. It might still exist under 12.04, the current version. If anybody need more information, just tell me what needs to be provided.

This is clearly not a VLC bug. Something is ruining the XVideo configuration for NVidia cards.
