Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

Mythbubtu 8.10 Beta up to date 10/8/08 8PM. Experience same results from initial install.

Video card: PNY Geforce 7600 GT 256MB PCI-E
Had to add 'vmalloc=192M pci=nommconf' to kernal boot parameters for X to load with restricted drivers, 177 beta
Dual core AMD Athlon X2 64 bit processor was contributing to restricted driver issue from what I gather after much googling

Was trying to implement a clone twinview config with svideo TV out as second display. Hitting "Apply" button affectively sets the displays but the "Save to Xorg.conf" button crashed the program with above error.

Just in case it's not obvious: this crash happens *before* xorg.conf is modified. So, there's currently no way to get my "nvidia-settings" preferences into my xorg.conf, aside from hand-editing it.

It seems this happened because I was saving xorg.conf as a User not as a
Root, I receive updates today, now work fine, Thanks.

Pako: If your problem was fixed by running nvidia-settings as root, then you had a different problem from this bug here.

I always run nvidia-settings as root (with 'sudo'), and I still see this crash in fully up-to-date Ubuntu 8.10 today.

I don't remember exactly when happened, before or after updates, that was
the first run of nvidia-setting manager, and the first click on Save to X
configuration File button. Never happened again.

Title: nvidia-settings crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()

This crash happens ..
.. in all three modes (Clone, Twin, Separate-X -Mode)
.. independent of user (as user and as root)

I have the same crash when trying to save and I did this a a root. I guess this is a parsing problem because it works with an old xorg.conf but not with the one my system have after a fresh install.

I resolved permanently the problem: renamed the xorg.conf and start with sudo the nvidia-settings and I can save the new xorg.conf.
