Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-kernel-common

On my Dell Latitide D820 with an nVidia GeForce Go 7400, recent versions of Hardy do not intergrate with the pm-utils framework, which leads to crashes on resume when the new pm scripts try to POST the card using the VBE tools. The workaround I have is to create /etc/pm/config.d/99-non-free-nvidia which contains the needed configuration settings to prevent the pm-utils framework from touching the card on suspend/resume. None of the VBE posting, state save/restore/ or modesetting is needed because the nVidia kernel driver handles it natively.

if the new pm-utils framework is being used, add this file to /etc/pm/config.d/

Yes, attached script fixes suspend/resume problems on my D820 too. All the changes I made in /etc/default/acpi-support had no effect and I didn't realize that pm-utils handles the suspend now. Thanks!

Thank you very much! This is a much appreciated fix! I hope that it makes it into Hardy final.

It will be solved by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/198808. Hopefully. :)

That ifx is not as elegant as mine, but it will work.

On a fresh install of a fully updated hardy, I find I still need the 99-non-free-nvidia hack to get things to work properly. Without it, suspend works, but causes compiz to sometimes go whitescreen (requires X server kill to fix).

With 99-non-free-nvidia, everything works fine.
