Bug Description
It was the proprietary nvidia drivers that were doing it (version 295.4). They don't like my GeForce 8400m g card one little bit). My Ubunutu 12.04 installation was almost completely unusable: it was running slowly and hanging / freezing frequently, especially when using the ethernet (e.g. software centre or Firefox). After much frustrating (because of the hangs/ constant hard power-downs) searching I found this: http://
