Bug Description

The performance in oneric beta 2 on this card is noticeably slower than on previous releases. Animations are jerky and slow -- sometimes the dash takes around two seconds to finish disappearing. Icon highlights in the application lens are very laggy, following several icons behind during a moderate drag.

Comparing with ubuntu 9.04 and driver series 180 using glxgears, with sync to vblank disabled: 1200 FPS (9.04) versus 200 (11.10) ! (both tests with compiz running)

However disabling Unity plugin in Compiz Settings brings 1200 FPS back :)

Yep, same problem for me, Ubuntu 11.10 AMD64, Driver version 280.13. This makes the system unusable. Every thing lags on the screen.

Hey fader,

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.

I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?

Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not, do you think the bug
report can be closed, or do you think we should continue tracking it?

I have been unable to reproduce the issue due to bug 889532 which prevents me from using Unity 3D with the proprietary nvidia driver, so I'm not sure if it can be closed or not.

Lately with the new Nvidia driver 290.10 i decreased the shared memory (on-chip vga frame buffer size) from mobo bios from 256MB to 128MB and Ubuntu is working greatly till now.

I'm using an updated Ubuntu 11.10 installation (Nvidia drivers 280.13 version) and I was suffering this bug until I downgraded the video card shared memory from 256 MB to 128 MB, just like Eslam said.

It seems a shared memory issue, with 256 MB configured every animation stop and goes; but with 128 MB, everything works fine.
