Bug Description

Binary package hint: dkms

kubuntu 10.10
dkms: 2.1.1.2-3ubuntu1.1
kernel: both 2.6.37-2-generic from x-edgers and 2.6.35-23-generic from standard repo
driver: nvidia-current from x-edgers repository
gpu: nvidia gt330m

bug reproducible with non-edgers driver

doing:
aptitude install nvidia-current

intead of installing the package i get:

as far as i know I have the sources installed

tried reinstalling both sources and kernel, to no avail

simila to bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dkms/+bug/602408 but got no message about module already built

This means that you are missing the headers for your kernel generally. Have you checked to make sure they were installed too?

Can you please provide:
dpkg -l | grep linux

IIRC, installing the headers package solved the problem for me, but it took me a long time to figure that out. It would be helpful if the error mentioned the linux-headers package explicitly, or if nvidia-current could make that a dependency.
