Bug Description
I was having problems in gnome mines (game refreshed very slowly). Please reference Bug #625576. I finally found the solution: Ubuntu was only updating my system to nVidia driver 173.14.22, while the latest driver on nVidia's website is 256.44. "sudo apt-get install nvidia-current" would only install version 173; the exact same driver version recommended during install by the "proprietary hardware wizard". So I dropped to a terminal, killed X, and installed version 256.44 manually and everything runs smooth and fast now. Stellarium (uses opengl) is uber-smooth as well.
Fast Core2 Quad
8 Gb RAM
nVidia 9600GT
Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit
Perhaps I'm missing something? Shouldn't the latest drivers get recommended/
