I have similiar issue. I use TV as a 2nd video output - connected by HDMI. Sound should be played, but it doesn't work. On Windows sound works with official nvidia drivers.

Already I got Ubuntu 12.04, but this problem I've got since I use TV - it was Ubuntu 9.04.

About this bug - I think that HDMI-sound option is not necessary. TV should plays sound normally.

That version is no more supported; please open a new bug report if the actual archive found version also has the same issue.
