Bug Description

nvclock run in the under a normal user without sudo.
I think on a this can be doungerous, f.e. if it is need to underclock the gpu on a multiusers System.
A change of gpu clock can make a damage to hardware, so only root should be able to do this.

Andreas Simon (andreas-w-simon) wrote :

Can this not also be restriced by changing the permissions of /dev/nvidia* ?

I think there is not much security gained if nclock can be run only by root but the device to speak directly to the nvidia hardware has still write-permission for all users.

Andreas Simon, Marco Rodrigues, Daniel T Chen I think that users needed the permissions for change the backlight, it only work with nvclock with a lot of graphic cards, see it on:

     method

 b. Attempt to reproduce your bug

 c. If your bug still remains, please simply reply to this email
     indicating so.

 d. If your bug is now solved, you can help us by setting your bug
     report to Fix Released:
     * In launchpad, go to your bug report
     * Click on the downward pointing arrow under Status
     * Set the Status field to 'Fix Released'
