Bug Description

Fully updated fresh install of 12.04 on Lenovo T510 laptop with the nvidia graphics card. Standard keyboard (fn+home/end) are responsive from the gui, but no change occurs. Using the brightness tool in the settings is also ineffective. Attempted numerous fixes found online (grub entry, xorg.conf entry, etc.) but no positive effect.

Thanks,

Update to bug issue:

I can alter the brightness of the screen as the bios boots, but once
Ubuntu is up, I can no longer adjust it.

I had the very same issue with my T510 and adding the line

Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"

within the 'Section "Device"' solved the problem for me.

I have just installed XUbuntu 12.04 on an Asus G55VW and have the same problem. None of the current work arounds of setting boot params or changing xorg.conf have fixed the issue for me.
