Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have an Nvidia graphics card, and the proprietary drivers for it, and I assume that it is causing the problem. I'm on Ubuntu 8.10

When I go to Appearence and change Visual Effects from off to Normal or Extra, when I open an Open Office program, the words are missing from the clickable buttons, like the menu tabs at the top (File, Edit, View etc.)

They are there for a split second when the programs start, but then disappear, and if I hover the mouse over the button they reappear for another split second but then disappear again.

But other programs like Evolution or Gedit work fine with no missing words.

Hi jembernstein,

Thanks for including an image to demonstrate the issue. Could you also please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
