Bug Description
Binary package hint: openoffice.org
Ubuntu 8.10, running OpenOffice.org version 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2.1
This bug popped up just a couple of days ago after several months of bug-free use, so it seems likely that this is a result of a system update of some sort.
When OpenOffice is loaded (including but not limited to word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets), the text in the menus appears for just a split-second and then disappears, leaving only the underline below the accessibility character (i.e. under the 'F' in file, indicating that alt-f opens the file menu). The same artifacts appear in individual menu entries, as well as tool tips and buttons in wizards, so it makes me think that this is a problem somewhere in the general rendering code. Whenever the text is re-rendered (i.e. moused over for the menu entries and buttons) the normal text reappears for a split-second, and then reverts to just the underline artifact.
