Bug Description

When I open any open office 2.4 application there is no text in any of the headings and commands.
There is just a dash at every command and a graphic where the command has a graphic.

It makes the software unusable and needs critical attention if it effects more people.

I use ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 with openoffice 2.4 on AMD 64 infrastructure.

What locale are you using and do you have the proper openoffice.org-l10n-* package installed for it?

In the future please file bug reports by using Help->Report a bug which includes all the needed information.

Hallo Chris, what is a locale?

I checked the -l10n packages and have 3 installed. common, en and za language support.

I also upgraded the system today to openoffice 3.0 to see if it will help and the same problem still exist. It works correctly on all my other 5 computers with both 2.4 and 3.0 but not the one I have just reformatted and reinstalled with Ubuntu 8.10. ( All the others run the same operating system in both Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu and it works) . It is a AMD 64 with Nvidia drivers and it worked before with OOO. So is 2 of my other computers.

It seems that it has a common file missing. Could it be a font? There is no text in any of the menus anywhere.
I checked and have made sure the language support and all packages I could see in the repositories is installed.

Tell me what to do or what you need futher and I will see if I can provide.

Ah, this is probably the problem that I have seen with the nvidia driver, which nvidia driver are you using? Is it nvidia-glx-96

Chris, I am running the latest 177.80 driver with GLX loaded. Again, it is the same driver on my other nvidia computers where OOO3 has no problem.

Still suspect some kind of missing file.

Problem now fixed. There was a font file which OOO3 was looking for missing.

I changed the systems fonts and the txt is back.

OOO3 developers needs to make sure to use generally available open source font which is in all distros.

Can close bug.

Someone must speak to OOO3 developers and make sure correct font is used.
