Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
    journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
    journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
    ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself.

I have the same problem since the upgrade to Ubuntu 25.04 last week. Every few hours the desktop freezes and I have to do a hard shutdown. There are no files in /var/crash.

Ashkan, your issue looks like an Nvidia kernel driver bug or a hardware issue:

hungry-mietner, your issue on Apr 20 and 21 looks like a different Nvidia kernel driver bug:

In future please open your own bugs so as to not confuse existing ones.

I just saw that the same Nvidia bug was also reported by multiple users in the Nvidia forums https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/570-release-feedback-discussion/321956/499

This is not "the same Nvidia bug". It is two unrelated issues, though admittedly both seem to be caused by 570. Please always log your own separate bugs.

That is your bug, it is not this bug which is currently owned by Ashkan. Please report that issue elsewhere.

Judging by Ashkan's original kernel log in comment #1, the i915 Intel graphics driver started emitting warnings before Nvidia hit trouble. Also the integrated GPU usually owns the laptop screen so this isn't really an Nvidia bug.

Everyone else, please open your own separate bugs.

I think this bug might be closer to https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules/issues/659, judging from the kernel log.

i915 warnings in the log only show issues related to Intel GPU probing and should not cause the screen to freeze (they can also indicate a firmware bug or ACPI table issue). To see if the Intel GPU is the problem, I think Askan can try `sudo prime-select intel` to use iGPU for rendering.
