I know that there is another bug report on 4.4.0-81, and that there is a candidate kernel 4.4.0-83 that fixes other problems (octave and scilab not booting.) It would be prudent to see if nvidia-375 375.66-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 builds on the new candidate.
