nvidia 367.57 performance with kde horrible compared to 361.42 or 370.28

Bug Description
I installed 16.04 about 6 months back and got nvidia driver version 361.42 installed with it on my GeForce 940M card. glxgears produced around 3800 fps on initial startup. Today I did a full upgrade of my laptop and as a result nvidia 367.57 was installed. This produces around 800 fps and when switching between activities in kde and moving the mouse I experience massive cursor lag etc. To see if it was related to nvidia drivers or something having been upgraded in KDE I simply installed latest PPA version (370.28) of nvidia and after a reboot this totally fixed performance both in terms of feel and glxgears fps is back to normal.
Obviously this is something of an upstream problem, however it seems to me that perhaps the upgrade to 367 drivers should be delayed?
