I'm also having problems with ubuntu 16.04 and nvidia driver 361.42 in a dual graphics laptop.

In my case it installs without problems but after a while the screen freezes and after power off/ power on
I cannot never more use nvidia graphics card. The login screen resets after enter the password.

The dmesg output says:
[ 2.215329] NVRM: GPU at 0000:03:00.0 has fallen off the bus.
[ 2.215382] NVRM: A GPU crash dump has been created. If possible, please run

In ubuntu 15.10 and using 352 drivers never had a single problem.

Ubuntu 16.04 with nvidia drivers 361 and 364 are NOT working here either in a laptop with intel and nvidia GeForce 940M.
Using either these drivers and nvidia-prime, its installs and works at first graphical boot, after a few minutes the system freezes and only after a hard reset the drivers don't work anymore.
Also, I only managed to get working the driver 361 with bumblebee, however after a suspend the nvidia card cannot be used getting a error of fallen off the bus and the message refused to change state...

In conclusion, these drivers are NOT WORKING!!!!!

I only get the system perfectly working using the 352 drivers and nvidia-prime, the install of the 352 nvidia driver is not working through apt-get and ppa:graphics-driver/ppa,
I had to manually download them from the site and install them manually.

Please fix these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or at least give the people the option to install the 352 drivers through the Additional Drivers in Software and updates.

The automated installer in Ubuntu Studio barfed this error at me trying to install it into my ROG G751JT.

I can just install it without the graphics and do it separately, but it would have been very nice for it to be able to just take care of it for me. Nice option, I hope it gets sorted!

There is a workaround for installation of nvidia-352 from graphics-drivers PPA: you need to specify a package version. Here are the steps, that worked for me:

1. Remove all nvidia related packages and their configuration:
sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove $(dpkg -l | awk '$2~/nvidia/ {print $2}')
sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove bbswitch-dkms

2. Install nvidia-352:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-352=352.79-0ubuntu0~gpu16.04.2

3. Prevent nvidia-352 from future upgrading to 361:
sudo apt-mark hold nvidia-352

4. Reboot and verify that Nvidia graphics card is in use:
glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version"
