Bug Description

When I install the nvidia package, no HDMI output.
In order it works I have to install the packages and the drivers from nvidia website NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-352.63.run
Both have to be installed.
If I unplugged the HDMI screen, I have to reboot in order it is detected again, unplug/replug doesn't activate it.
If only the driver from nvidia no screen at all.

To clarify, in your previous test of the nvidia driver from the Ubuntu repositories, did you test https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-352?

I'm pretty sure that this is same bug that my machine is suffering. I have Dell Precision 15 5000 Series (5510) with Quadro M1000M/PCIe/SSE2 graphics card (4.2.0-23-generic). Current observations:

- HDMI output works if connected from the boot
- When DPMS kicks in HDMI output disappears (tested with 2 different monitors)
- Hotpluging doesn't work (no kernel events, used udevadm monitor to verify)
- VGA (via usb-c adapter) works, hotplugging also
- display port (via usb-c adapter) not confirmed (going to when I got the adapter)

I think this is rooted to issue that hotplugging HDMI cable doesn't work properly. I can provide more information if required.

How could I debug this nvidia driver even more? I really would like to solve this issue.

Sami00Sami, it will be most helpful if you filed a new report with Ubuntu by ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg
