Bug Description

Beginning with nvidia-340 340.96-0ubuntu3, X does not start on my Asus K53SV (optimus) laptop. Removing the package allows X to start with the Intel driver.

Actual symptom is that the X virtual terminal displays a non-blinking cursor and nothing else. X log file attached.

I also am facing the same issue and also boot to tty1. I'd be happy to provide any further information to help solve this.

P.S. If it is of any use, this also happened when I tried installing nvidia drivers on a new Fedora 23 installation.
