WorkAround
turn off Settings -> Show Advanced Settings -> Use hardware acceleration when available.

Fix this issue in My environment.
But if you did this, can't use hardware acceleration.

Workaround works for me too (turn of accelerated graphics in Chrome), but it's still a bug with acceleration turned on.

Drivers say they're version 331.38 (Recommended by driver engine).

Better workaround: enable "Software compositing window manager" through System -> Preferences -> Windows.

Same thing happened to me on Lubuntu 14.04, not just with chrome/chronium but with multiple applications (firefox, hipchat, chromium...).
Interestingly, only parts are overlaid with artifacts from the application on the previous desktop.

I have an GeForce GTX 770 and ran 331.38. I've upgrade to the latest drivers from nvidia (343.22) and the problem seems to be gone.

Using openbox and have similar problems.

Update nvidia driver to version 340.32 from ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa solves the problem.
