Compiz reset required after downgrading

Bug Description

After downgrading to nvidia-current-upgrades in 14.10, I was faced with the issue reported e.g. here [1]: no unity, launcher or dash. Fix 5 in this [2] answer to that question solved the problem for me:

sudo dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

However, the fact that that was necessary is probably a bug.
