Bug Description

well found a slight issue with the GPU and watching movies or video like content when 1 watches a 1080p or lower it don't run the Video Engine Utilization part of it done a test with an unofficial Nvidia graphics driver and it ran and took SO much load off my processor went to 20-30%

With Nvidia-331.38-updates driver not running Video Engine Utilization it runs 85-100% and barely can play a 1080p video

WORKAROUND: Use xorg-edgers PPA https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa .

Daryl Hughes, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please advise on which specific unofficial nvidia driver version you tested where this problem did not exist?

As well, would using an older nvidia driver version provide a WORKAROUND as noted in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia ?

also just in case u or any 1 where to test it or something it is kinda buggy when u install "Nvidia-343.22-updates" it will work great but if u where to upgrade the driver or remove it it will come back with something like "came back with error 1" or something like that.

and cant remove it at all only why i know so fare is to re-install Ubuntu.

But if any 1 has any tips how to fix that or work around it will be greatly appreciated for future bugs

Daryl Hughes, given this is fixed in a later version of the nvidia driver, this would be a downstream (Ubuntu) issue, versus an upstream (NVIDIA) one. Hence, one potential solution would be to backport that version of the driver to the *updates package Trusty+.

Alberto Milone, would this be one for you?
