This bug affects me when I install the mainline kernel debs from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.10-rc7-saucy/ while troubleshooting a different kernel issue. Booting into the mainline kernel then puts me in what appears to be a 640x480 video mode, and Unity fails to start.

13.04 amd64 on the Nvidia 310 drivers.
