Bug Description

I have 12.10 (upgraded from 12.04) on my USB-flash and Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT.
I tried to install all versions of Nvidia drivers (nvidia-current, nvidia-current-updates, nvidia-experimental-304) from software-properties-gtk.
Install process is succesfull for all three, but there is no blacklist file in /etc/modprobe.d/ and after reboot I get nouveau in lsmod. So X11 uses nouveau driver, not Nvidia's.
modinfo reports that nvidia drivers are installed correctly, modprobe fails with message "FATAL: Error inserting nvidia_current (/lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/updates/dkms/nvidia_current.ko): No such device'" because of conflict with nouveau.

May this is a complex problem of nvidia-detector, software-properties-gtk, etc...

I am trying to install nvidia_current in a fresh install, and I get this issue. I followed this guide: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/ubuntu-quetzal-nvidia.html
I got this error when I came to the "modprobe nvidia_current" step.

This is the history of commands I ran before I got this error:
    4 sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-source linux-headers-`uname -r`
    5 sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
    6 sudo /sbin/lsmod | grep nvidia
    7 sudo depmod -a
    8 sudo /sbin/lsmod | grep nvidia
    9 modprobe nvidia_current
   10 sudo modprobe nvidia_current

Before this sequence of commands all I did on this install was to update all packages.

This bug is keeping me from using 12.10 instead of Window$ (I want to play games) :(
