Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I am not sure where the exact bug is, but here is the issue:

Whenever typing in an application, the mouse is frozen in it's place.
The easiest way to replicate the problem is to open up a text editing application (gedit, openoffice, etc)
and just start typing random text. While doing this, try moving the mouse. You will find that it is stuck in place.

This is not so bad, but the mouse is stuck approximately half a second to a second after the last text input from the keyboard.
Again this is not entirely too bad. The problems comes when copying and pasting text. This also produces the same "freeze."

Replicate this by typing some text in gedit. The highlight and copy the text (With Ctrl+C) You will notice that for an instant after copying the mouse will be stuck.
Now paste and you will notice the same bug. This becomes really bad when programming or things similar where you are constantly typing, copying, pasting, etc...

This happens in all programs that I have tried (from firefox to gedit to gnome-terminal to nautilus) so it seems like a bug in X.
I also tried it in Kdenlive to make sure it was not gtk - same bug.

This was not present when I first installed Karmic beta, but came about sometime last week with an update in X.
I have nVidia graphics (185 driver) on a laptop. I am not sure how the keyboard and mouse communicate (i.e. usb or something else)
It is also a tablet pc with a usb wacom tablet built in (and touchscreen). I don't see this being the problem though.

Any more information needed, just ask.
Kory

For one, I am using the 185 driver.
Second, even when using the open source nvidia driver the problem is still present.
I am moving this back to xorg.

I have the exact same issue.. though for me, wasn't present while runnign Jaunty, only after upgrade to Karmic.

And likewise, I am using 185 drivers, not 180

My laptop (Latitude D630) is having the same symptoms. However it does seem to be only the case when using the touchpad, when connecting an USB mouse there is no freeze-up what so ever.

Maybe it's totally unrelated as I'm not using any nvidia drivers and such (intel ones for the display), but just in case I added my 2¢. Before Karmic upgrade everything worked fine.

To fix this problem, go to System > Preferences > Mouse, the Touchpad tab, and uncheck "Disable touchpad while typing."

Oh... Nice. Thanks Ricket!
(This must have been enabled by default for the first time in Karmic...)
