since update my monitor is just black

i expected to get a normal gdm screen

instead i get a black screen, even the prompt for the dm-crypt password was on the monitor
no chance to get to tty2/3/4...
i booted the install cd, changed the nvidia driver to nv (in xorg.conf) and everything is working now so its propably the nvidia driver

xorg is now using 100% cpu

worked with same nvidia driver and 2.6.31-12 kernel. Applied 2.6.31-13 kernel update from update manager and was unable to get GDM or ttys. Monitor light eventually indicates monitor going to sleep.

could you please change the driver in your xorg.conf from "nvidia" to "nv, restart, and see with "top" if your xorg server is using 100% cpu usage ?

btw. my monitorlight looks good - a signal is coming from my graphic card
and could you poste your xorg.log? propably its the same bug i have

This happened also with Lucid Lynx and Nvidia 7200 GS card (the current driver is today 185.18.36-0ubuntu9) . I have to use driver 173.14.22-0ubuntu11.
