Bug Description

Using Jaunty Kubuntu kernel 2.6.28-8-generic x86_64 kernel with Nvidia 7600GS display card and latest 180.29 display drivers. I'm using conky version 1.61 from the repos with a script which I wrote for conky 1.51 (Ubuntu) and Hardy Heron.
If I type conky in terminal I get no errors, but when conky is displayed the background behind conky looks like the default grey splash screen for Kubuntu Jaunty. If I kill (via killall conky) conky the background (which was behind conky) now displays my wallpaper as expected. If I then re-enable conky via terminal the background behind conky reverts to the grey splash screen (see attached). At no point does the background (behind conky) display my wallpaper.
Packages are nvidia-glx-180.29-0ubuntu2_amd64, nvidia-180-libvdpau_180.29-0ubuntu2_amd64,nvidia-180-kernel-source_180.29-0ubuntu2_amd64,nvidia-180-modaliases_180.29-0ubuntu2_amd64.

Hi kevbert1,

Thanks for including an image to demonstrate the issue. Could you also please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Hi Bryce,
Attached is a tar.gz file with the information requested. I've also included my conkyrc file. I'm now using the updated nvidia driver (180.35) and have the conky 1.6.1-0ubuntu4 package from the Jaunty repo.

In Jaunty (9.04), we have just updated to the latest
nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 package from nVidia, version 180.44.

This package provides fixes for a large number of bugs, and we need your
assistance in testing if it fixes the issue you reported.

To do this, please do the following:

 a. Update to the 180.44 version of -nvidia using your favorite update
     method

 b. Attempt to reproduce your bug

 c. If your bug still remains, please simply reply to this email
     indicating so.

 d. If your bug is now solved, you can help us by setting your bug
     report to Fix Released:
     * In launchpad, go to your bug report
     * Click on the downward pointing arrow under Status
     * Set the Status field to 'Fix Released'
     * Comment on the change, such as, 'Verified fixed in 180.44'
     * Click 'Save Changes'

 e. If the original problem is solved but there are now other problems,
please close the original bug and open new ones for those issues.

Thank you!

Unfortunately this error still occurs. I've checked that the new 180-44 driver is being used (via Nvidia X Server Settings).

Something has happened since yesterdays' updates 2009-04-04. When the desktop first displays, I now get an outline 'shadow' of the boarder of my conky prior to it being displayed (behind this the background is my set background and not the default background). Previously I got a narrow bar at the top of where my conky would be prior to it being displayed.

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Get nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14 here:

Hi Bryce. Unfortunately this still doesn't work in Kubuntu Jaunty kernel 2.6.28-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:55:09 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. According to Nvidia Server Settings I'm now using the ppa driver after a full update/upgrade/dist-upgrade and reboot. Seeing as I'm using Ubuntu which was upgraded, over time, from Alpha4 to date, I may try again with a fresh install of the latest version of Jaunty, but that will be in a few days time. I'll let you know of any changes/improvements.

I've just done a reinstall of the 2.6.28-11 kernel and upgraded to the -13 kernel (a new download of Kubuntu). With both the original 180.44 driver and the new 185.18.14 one I still get this problem.
One thing that seems very odd is that I left conky on the screen when I shut-down the session. I've rebooted twice since then and get three instances of conky indicated when I hover over the workspace icon (Desktop 1,2,3 and 4) and top confirms this (see attached snapshot).
