Same behaviour over here.

steps to reproduce: after some scrolling and editing in Gnu Emacs and OpenOffice, display gets garbled and / or partly whited out.

workaround: disabling desktop effects to "None".

installed:
Jaunty, with all updates as of today
nvidia-glx-180 180.44-0ubuntu1
