Bug Description

X brakes if I run nvidia-xconfig

If I remove all entrys except driver init, X works

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
EndSection

nVidia reference

No log files attached beacuse tty is also broken for me for normal mode. Changes
must be done in recovery mode.

The RGB path is clearly a "showstopper" as I recalls the xorg.0 log file.

If X brakes this message also occurs "The greater application appears to be (and so on) ...... "

This can maybe also be because of earlier installs of nVidias driver, downloaded and patched
for the 2.6.26 kernel... ????

Please clarify :)

If you can reproduce the crash, then fix it in recovery mode and reboot you can still attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old so that I can see what happened.

Ok...

1. clean xorg.conf except nvidias recommended settings

2. sudo nvidia-xconfig > new xorg.conf attached

3. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace for X-restart > X broken and "The greeter application" messagebox comes

3. tty is then broken for me.... Ctrl-Alt-F1 > F6

4. Restart in recovery mode and uncomment RGB path within xorg.conf (of course fsck comes :) )

5. Restart in normal mode OK

Log files attached

Also the question if a installed nVidia driver can trash everything if
then the nvidia-glx-177 package is installed ???

I have been running nVidias driver with the Xen patch

Thanks ! :)

Thanks for reporting.

If you install the NVIDIA driver from the NVIDIA installer you will have to uninstall the driver through the installer before you install an nvidia package from the repository. You will have to:
1) shut down the Xserver (or do all this from Recovery Mode)
2) uninstall the driver with, for example, "sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.13-pkg0.run --uninstall"

Furthermore the drivers in the repository are compatible with Xen.

Well, Ok and thanks

I have no problem running both drivers, its just to understand
what happens and how it should work... too much "trial & error" :)

One last question..... does your tty work !???

Seems that a tty is something unfamiliar for mostly all user .... :)
