Looks like you're using the x-swat ppa. You might want to try removing that ppa from /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ and then run the same commands again that I recommended. Also do a "sudo apt-get clean" before them.

What's in /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-current/195.36.24/build ?

Any logs of the dkms build which may detail why it failed?

DKMS make.log for nvidia-current-195.36.24 for kernel 2.6.32-24-generic (i686)
Sun Oct 3 11:22:21 IST 2010
If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
on your system.

If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the "KBUILD_OUTPUT" or
the "O" KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

Depending on where and how the kernel sources (or the
kernel headers) were installed, you may need to specify
their location with the SYSSRC environment variable or
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

Try installing the kernel headers, as they may be missing.

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.32-24-generic

Then repeat the three steps I outlined.
