Bug Description

Binary package hint: nspluginwrapper

When browsing some web-pages with flash the npviewer.bin process is using way too much cpu and memory.
top shows this:
7195 user 20 0 167m 74m 15m R 54 7.5 5:08.64 npviewer.bin
54% CPU on a Pentium D 3.4GHz is a lot, and so is 7.5% of 1Gb of RAM.
A sample page is this one: http://cgi.ebay.de/NOTEBOOK-IBM-THINKPAD-R60-CENTRINO-DUO-T5600-2x1-83GHz-/130475663503?pt=DE_Technik_Computer_Peripherieger%C3%A4te_Notebooks&hash=item1e60f4a08f

Output of ps ax| grep npviewer:
7195 ? Rl 4:56 /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer.bin --plugin /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so --connection /org/wrapper/NSPlugins/libflashplayer.so/7162-1

Moreover I have found this segfault in syslog:
Jan 14 16:31:49 celsius kernel: [ 3080.799775] npviewer.bin[5073]: segfault at f3c9404c ip 00000000f61c2ee7 sp 00000000fff26190 error 4 in libflashplayer.so[f5e23000+b2e000]

cheers.

I have the same problem on open-source radeon driver with dri rendering working ok, Ubuntu 10.10. So it seems like this bug doesn't depend on video driver used (nvidia used by original reporter, radeon is on mine machine).

F.e. on page: http://news.tut.by/tv/217001.html I get 60-70% CPU load (Core 2 Duo P8600 @ 2.40GHz) and high fan activity and quite hot laptop surface.

I see this too when listening to music linked to from <http://www.swr.de/swr2/musik/musikstueck/archiv/-/id=2940346/gieis6/index.html#R>, and notably when the music page is open but not playing. Using gnash as my flash player, but I wonder whether this is a bug in software supplied by Ubuntu or in the web page? Are there any duplicates for this in Launchpad? "npviewer.bin cpu" is clearly a sufficiently popular Google search that it pops up in their search suggestions with a ready-cached result list.

I note that the CPU usage increases with every new piece of music I listen to if I don't actively close the window after the last one finishes. As mentioned, the usage does not decrease after the music ends. Presumably a new flash app is started each time but the old ones are never ended, but again this may be a bug in the web page.
