VLC plugin fails to open an .asx .m4a webstream

Hi, VLC web browser plugin fails to open an .asx stream via the "codingformat=.m4a". I'm using Chromium version 23.0.1271.64 Ubuntu 12.10 (165188). The stream works with the VLC media player, I can even seek the .asx .m4a stream in the VLC media player. I cannot play the .asx .m4a stream with the plugin for web browsers based on VLC (browser-plugin-vlc). Can the browser-plugin-vlc be fixed for .asx .m4a webstream support?

Same story with .m3u playlists, standalone VLC works but browser-plugin-vlc crashes. Here is the stream you can try this on:

This is on fully up-to-date ubuntu saucy (13.10). There is a strange version mismatch with the packages version - could it be the reason for the bug?
