Bug Description

Binary package hint: notify-osd

Steps to reproduce:
1) Move a mouse pointer to the place where notifications appear
2) Increase volume so that a notification appears - it is opaque (and it's OK)
3) Move a mouse so that it doesn't leave the notification rectangle

What happens:
Notification doesn't become transparent

What should happen:
User shouldn't be forced to move mouse out of the notification and back in to see what's under it.

(Whereas I fully understand why a notification which appears above a mouse pointer is opaque but I think it should become transparent again after even a little movement.)

The current behavior is by design: "If the pointer is over the area where a bubble is about to appear, it should appear as normal, ignoring the pointer unless it leaves and then re-enters the area."

You suggest that *any* mouse movement should cause the bubble to decloak, but I doubt this is a good idea. For example, what if you're in the middle of selecting some text in that area, or using a menu, or drawing a picture? That the pointer is moving doesn't necessarily mean you're not studying that area.

the issue is the other way around, the bubble doesn't change until the cursor is moved out of the bubble...

same problem here:

It is extremely annoying if i enter something in the Firefox search box. I use empathy with my facebook account (many people friends going on and off):

1. some notification appears
2. move mouse to search box, enter text
3. notification disappears, another notification appears -> its not transparent any more and i don't see what i'm writing.

I realize that a new notification should always be seen but this is one of the biggest annoyances (for me) when using ubuntu. I would also prefer the behavior where minor mouse movement makes a notification transparent again.
