You realize that with the notifications coming more down, a more cramped feeling comes up? The notification system loses the beauty of it being an ephemeral, out-of-the-way system. Even if visually the top is now visible at (almost) all times, the area of space that Notify-OSD uses is increased. It's more intrusive, now. Besides, one is more likely to have text in that portion of the screen.
Basically, as always with this program, the solution is to allow easy customization!
