Bug Description

Binary package hint: notification-daemon

Preferences set in gconf by hand or by notification-properties do not get respected by the new notification daemon.

System details:
Arch: x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 9.04 beta
Compiz: enabled

Specifically, the popup_location key in /apps/notification-daemon does not get respected. It is set to "bottom_right" at the moment, however the notifications are still appearing as if popup_location was set to "top_right".

I tried restarting my session after making a change, and the notification daemon still acts the way it did before.

Any other information you need, don't hesitate to ask!

Same here (9.04 final, 32-bit). However, the bug is more serious than notifications just being displayed in the wrong corner:

I have a multi-monitor setup, with two monitors of different size - primary is 1920x1200 and second is 1280x1024. They are aligned at the bottom edge, moving the top edge of the second screen down by 176 pixels. This area of 1280x176 pixels above the second screen is "dead", and not used by applications (since it is not visible anyway).

The notification-system ignores this, and puts all notifications in this dead area (I can sometimes see the bottom part of a notification at the top of the screen) . Since there is no way of moving the notifications to another corner, I can't see them at all!

So unless this will be fixed soon, I need to find a way to revert to the old system immediately.

I think my previous comment is related to notify-osd, not notification-daemon. Sorry about posting in the wrong place.

I have the same problem. Since I upgraded to Ubuntu Jaunty, the notifications are appearing on the top-right corner of my screen.

Same for me, the pop-up only at right top. Modification on 'Pop-up notifications' program are without effect.

Config :

- Jaunty x86 upgraded from Intrepid
- I don't use Compiz

I confirm this is still an issue on Ubuntu 9.04, fully up-to-date.

This has been a problem since I upgraded from 8.10, why is it not getting attention?

To re-iterate:
System > Preferences > Pop-Up Notifications does not do anything. The Theme nor the Position settings work. They do nothing, not even a mention of an error in any logs.

For me, a single display user, this is just annoying.
For others [see above], using multi-display, this is a show stopper!

Please, can it get some attention finally?

Thanks for your bug report.

Those gconf properties (and/or the Pop-Up notifications preferences dialog) are related to notification-daemon, and not to NotifyOSD.

If you are using the new notification system, those preferences wouldn't work.

A conversation about notify-osd notifications not being configurable is on-going in bug 346095.

f you are using the old notification system and still experience this bug, please reopen it.

Gotcha!

I guess the confusion is that the Preview button in Pop-Up Notifications displays a notify-osd bubble.

I will check out the bug you noted.
