Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I am running an up-to-date lucid system. Firefox opens three pop-ups per completed download. Please confirm or disconfirm this is happening in your lucid system, too.

I've now arrived at four pop-ups per download.

I can't reproduce this bug. xul-ext-notify works like it should.

I'm up to the count of six or seven pop-ups per download now. And it started to affect the notification for wireless connections from network-manager as well.

I'm starting to wonder if this is because I have notify-osd, xul-ext-notify and notifcation-manager installed at the same time.

removing the notification-daemon package and keeping notify-osd did not solve the issue.

actually, now after a reboot, it seems that things have been fixed. Maybe there is a conflict between these package providing the same server after all?

How many Firefox windows do you have open? Does this value correlate with the number of pop-ups?

Rolf Leggewie (r0lf) wrote :

Benjamin, spot on!

The number of notifications for Firefox downloads seems to be the exact same number as open windows. One has to have both notify-osd and notifcation-daemon packages installed for this bug to appear.

The number of notifications in network-manager differ from this and seem to follow their own rules.

I'm not sure but I believe the number of notifications for network-manager correspond to the number of networks available. If there are three wifi networks in the vicinity, there seem to be three messages "Don't show this message again".

I confirm this bug in Maverick. I never saw this with network-manager. That would be a separate bug anyway. Where is the upstream source for notify-extension?

Nicolas, thank you for confirming.

The source is available from http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/xul-ext-notify

Changed in notify-extension (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Medium

The upstream source is hosted on github: https://github.com/linkinpark342/firefoxnotify

no longer affects: notification-daemon (Ubuntu)
no longer affects: notify-osd (Ubuntu)
