notification-daemon crashes trying to display notification

technically #927040 is a dupe but it includes private information, so i'm making a new one. noticed this time when additional drivers tried to give me a notification of guest additions drivers for virtualbox. so i tried installing libnotify-bin and using notify-send "hello" to reproduce.

none of which seems to relate to notification-daemon, which is still the same version.

…and yet now the problem seems to have gone away!
