This stills happens in saucy development branch. Can't install volo module for node, a newer version already available in Debian.

I may have been mistaken in my previous comment. Searching Debian packages it looks like testing and unstable are both with version 6.19 as Ubuntu 13.10; is the experimental branch the one which has the newer version of nodejs. Looks like they are going directly to version 0.10.13.

I dond't know how stable it is or if it is possible to import Debian packages from experimental. My confusion came because while trying to submit the bug during volo installation, directly to Debian, the server disn't let me because a newer version was available.

The current node version in 13.10 is 0.10.15, so at least there this can be marked as Fix Released I suppose.

I would love to help update NodeJS from the NodeJS source (http://nodejs.org/dist/v0.10.33/node-v0.10.33.tar.gz). I have started working through the packaging guide but it seemed to be addressing patches rather than updating from Upstream. Anywhere I can read about how to update this from 0.10.25 -> 0.10.33 would be appreciated so that I can submit a patch

Have a look here: https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/update.en.html#newupstream
Possibly also here: https://wiki.debian.org/PackagingWithGit#Upgrading_to_new_upstream_version (remember to update the changelog to the new version). The new version should be packaged for Debian first.

Latest stable nodejs version is 0.12.4, seems like it would be better to aim for that in 14.04 LTS and later. But obviously Debian hasn't upgraded anything from upstream in a long time, either. I guess I'll just use the PPA.

Latest stable node.js is now 4.0.0 (with the version bump coming as a result of the merge with io.js).

Repurposing this bug and moving the goalposts every release isn't helpful. Closing, since it originally mentioned 0.6 versus 0.10, which was sorted in 14.04.
