The version of nltk in the latest Ubuntu is 2.0~b9, but the current version of nltk is 2.0.4, and I need new functionality from 2.0.4 to do my work.

The newest version of python-nltk on Ubuntu is 2.0~b9-0ubuntu3. I need new functionality from 2.0.4 to do my work.

I'm running 12.04.2.

I'm not sure I understand your reply. The issue is that the latest
version isn't packaged for Ubuntu.

Correct, and the latest version is now 3.0.0 which has recently been released.
