Googling my error 'invalid argument' when trying to chown a file on Ubuntu server 12.04.1 32bit NFS shared directory (NFS client) and Open Indiana 151a5 (NFS server) brought me here, but it seemingly is a different bug since adding NEED_IDMAPD=YES does not fix it. Still searching for an answer how to make the NFS shared folder behave normally with regard to permissions/ownership on the Ubuntu machine.
