Bug Description
Binary package hint: nfs-kernel-server
We are running nfs-kernel-sever in Ubuntu Server 8.10 with 2.6.27-11 kernel on x86_64 server and 64 nfs clients running Ubuntu Desktop 8.10 x86_64 for auto-mounted home directories, and 24 Mac OSX clients also using auto-mounted home directories.
System runs fine for some time, but the lockd kernel task will stop responding at some point. Restarting nfsd / nfs-common does not clear the problem. The system requires a reboot. the problem seems exacerbated by heavy load.
I disabled client locking altogether and we have been running w/out incident ever since.
We are using nfs-kernel-server 1:1.1.2-4ubuntu1.1, and kernel 2.6.27-11-server for x86_64.

It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http:// www.ubuntu. com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
