The same happends to me for WiFi connections.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 but still using the /home directory from 11.04 and reseted the gnome / unity settings.
The old WiFi connections were transfered anyway (maybe at the fist start) and the described problem apears if I try to edit the old connections that have encryptions enabled.
I find the connections unter /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ but without the password and the password is also not included in the keyring.
