Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (cyphermox) wrote : Re: Can't enable wireless after upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10

Lazlo;

Stop network-manager (sudo stop network-manager); then edit the file /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state to modify WirelessEnable to set it to true; then start network-manager again (sudo start network-manager).

Does this help?

This doesn't help. Wireless stays disabled.

I have the same problem. In my case the wireless was actually enabled after the upgrade, but after disabling it once it is impossible to re-enable. I've tried doing what Mathieu suggested and it remains disabled for me as well.

Tested with the latest kernel in -proposed (3.0.0-13.21). Still not possible to enable my wireless. "sudo rfkill unblock all" enables wifi again, but can't toggle it's status in the network -manager and after reboot it is disabled again.

My /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf contained autologin-user=<user>.

Commenting out this line solved this issue for me. Autologin was not active - I had to login with password, and I never selected autologin.
