wpa_supplicant errors with Atmel Card (cannot use network-manager)

Bug Description

Network-manager cannot manage my Siemens Gigaset PC-Card (pcmcia wireless 802.11b atmel based, uses atmel and atmel_cs) because wpa_supplicant cannot associate (gives errors and then times out).
The network I tried to join is non-encrypted. I don't have an AP supporting WPA..

Using iwconfig / dhclient I can manually connect (not always, as I experienced the same problem as http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2006/03/msg00790.html )

In http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2006-January/msg00069.html there seems to be a patch... I tried to apply it and I got less errors... but wpa_supplicant still fails.

I have the same problem with a Siemens Gigaset PC-Card. It worked correctly with Breezy. I think that the problem is the kernel, as reported into bug #34752. I hope that will be fixed soon, or I can't use my notebook.
